Will my 2022 Ride Joburg result be used for seeding?

Yes, we use your 3 best race results obtained between 1 November 2019 and 30 September 2023 to calculate your index.

Which timing device can I use?

It is compulsory for every cyclist participating, to use a Faces Timing Board with chip. These are available for purchase online for R60 (board only) to R80 (incl clip).

If you entered in 2021 these were issued at no charge to entrants and may be re-used. It is important to note that you may only use the board that is linked to your entry profile, this must be attached to your seat post as instructed. Boards are non-transferable and you may not ride with someone else’s race number or timing board. Any participant that does not wear their race number or timing chip will not be allowed into the start pen on race day.

Is this similar to the racetec chip?

No, this is a faces timing board, and only this board can be used for the Virgin Active Ride Joburg road race

How does the board look?

Who will time the race?

Peak Timing is the official timing company of the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg Road.

What are the prize categories?

Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg proudly offers the biggest prize purse for a single day event on the continent. R200 000 prize money for our Top Male and Female in our Elite category for 2022. Click here for the full breakdown of prize categories.

Can I still ride if I don’t have a CSA license?

Yes, you can. However, if you race competitively and want to qualify for seeding in one of the racing categories batches, you will need to hold a valid, up-to-date CSA license. Please note that having a valid CSA license does not mean automatic seeding into the racing batch. You still need to qualify for seeding based on past results.

If I do not have a CSA License, do I need to buy a day license?

No licensing is required to participate in the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg. You will, however, need a valid CSA license to qualify for seeding into the racing batches.

When will I receive my start time?

We will send out the ROAD seeding mailers for all entrants mid October. In this email, you’ll find everything you need to know to get you to the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg Road start line.
