We use seeding to ensure riders of similar ability are grouped together so that you can compete enjoyably and safely. This is reflected in your start group and time.
To calculate your seeding, we will use road results obtained from events between 1 November 2019 and 30 September 2023 (at the discretion of the Race Director).

It is compulsory for every cyclist participating, to use a Faces Timing Board with chip. These are available for purchase online for R60 (board only) to R80 (incl clip).
If you entered in 2021 these were issued at no charge to entrants and may be re-used. It is important to note that you may only use the board that is linked to your entry profile, this must be attached to your seat post as instructed. Boards are non-transferable and you may not ride with someone else’s race number or timing board. Any participant that does not wear their race number or timing chip will not be allowed into the start pen on race day.

Yes, you can. However, if you race competitively and want to qualify for seeding in one of the racing categories batches, you will need to hold a valid, up-to-date CSA license. Please note that having a valid CSA license does not mean automatic seeding into the racing batch. You still need to qualify for seeding based on past results.

The Organising Committee will use results obtained from these MTB events for seeding the 10km, 25km & 50km MTB.
SASeeding, or their appointed agency, is the official timing company of the 10km, 25km & 50km Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg MTB.
It is compulsory for every cyclist participating in 10km, 25km & 50km to wear a valid SAS board linked to their personal profile, with the batch and event stickers provided affixed to the board. SAS boards may be purchased online during the entry process for R60. You may not ride with someone else’s SAS board.

Participants with existing SASeeding Number Boards will have the opportunity to validate their number against their name online before the race / on race day. It is the sole responsibility of the rider to ride with the correct number.
Prize money is awarded for top finishers in the following 50km MTB categories.
