Virgin Active Ride Joburg Road

1. WAIVER & RELEASE OF CLAIMS, ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND CONSENT TO MEDICAL TREATMENT

  • Entry Fees: The entry fee of R695.00 includes VAT and the CSA rider levy.
  • Individual participants must be older than the age of 12 years on 31 Dec.
  • Tandem participants riding with an adult must be older than the age of 9 years on 31 Dec.
  • Special dispensation may be applied for in writing to the Race Office for younger entrants.
  • If payment remains outstanding at the end of the online entry session, the entry will not be saved. An entry is not considered valid until payment has been received. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • Entries close for seeding and substation on the 29th September 2024, and close in totality on the 27th October 2024 or when entry capacity is reached. An entry is not considered valid until payment has been received. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • The Organising Committee may, at their discretion, decline an entry from anyone who is under suspension or has been banned by any sports controlling body for having used illegal drugs or any other substances; or refuse to allow anyone to participate in the race where good grounds exist for such a refusal.
  • No participant may sell their number or allow anyone else to ride under that number. Should a participant be in breach of this, she/he will be immediately disqualified and banned from participating in the Ride Joburg Road for 5 years. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • A participant may organise a substitution with the Race Office which can be done for free before entries close. The person who is being substituted will have their number removed from the database and a new number will be allocated. Seeding will be according to the new participant’s individual seeding index.
  • I consent to medical care and transportation in order to obtain treatment in the event of injury to me, volunteers or medical professionals may deem appropriate and understand that this Waiver & Release extends to any liability arising out of or in any way connected with the medical treatment and transportation provided in the event of an emergency and/or injury.
  • Charity/ Company Teams:
    - There is a minimum of 10 entrants per team. Limited group entries will be accepted . Terms and Conditions apply.
    - Each team participant with a seeding index will be allocated their start time, and all unseeded members will be seeded in the team’s start group. Seeded cyclists may drop down to their team’s start time if they wish to ride together.
    - No late seeding requests at registration will be entertained.
    - Entrants who wish to Ride For a Purpose must join their chosen Charities by 29 September 2024.
  • Number collection dates and times will be communicated to entrants/team administrators.

2. SEEDING

  • Seeding is the process that puts cyclists of similar ability into the same starting group. It is done to ensure a safe event and to place cyclists with others against whom they can compete enjoyably and safely.
  • The size of racing groups will be limited to the top qualifiers based on their Virgin Active Ride Joburg calculated seeding index.
  • An entrant’s Virgin Active Ride Joburg index will be calculated using the following criteria:
    - The Organising Committee will use selected Road results obtained from events between 1 November 2021 and 30 September 2024 for seeding (at the discretion of the Race Director).
    - The Organising Committee will use selected results manually submitted from events between 1 November 2021 and 30 September 2024 for seeding (at the discretion of the Race Director).
    - The Organising Committee is selective with the events it endorses as seeding events. The events selected meet the Organising Committee’s criteria of safety, being well run events. Other timed events not considered may be submitted on a merit basis, but are not considered standard seeding events, and as always if entrants can provide the Organising Committee with legitimate grounds for reseeding, the Organising Committee will consider these.
  • Seeding, start groups and start times will be emailed and/or sms’d to participants and will be available from 3rd October 2024. Cyclists who believe they have been incorrectly seeded may apply for re-seeding within the prescribed period communicated to cyclists. Re-seeding may be done at the sole discretion of the organisers who will require proof of ability in the form of results only. No late seeding requests at registration will be entertained.

3. RACE DAY

  • No participant may compete without wearing a cycling helmet.  Only commercially produced helmets, meeting ANSI Z90/4 or Snell standards, may be worn. Gloves are recommended.
  • Every rider shall at all times display his / her race number, pinned to the back of his/her shirt.
  • Every rider shall ensure that his / her timing chip provided by the event is correctly affixed as instructed.
  • Every cyclist shall ride carefully and with due regard to the safety of other cyclists and road users.
  • Participants must obey the instructions of the traffic officers and marshals and comply strictly with the rules of the road, save where authorised by traffic officers and marshals.
  • Participants are warned to keep to the left of the road and to remain on the sections of the road demarcated for them. Participants may be required to stop at certain intersections on the instruction of authorised marshals
  • A cyclist may not use a personal music system, radio communication device or cellular telephone whilst Cycling. CSA officials and the event reserves the right to disqualify any rider that contravenes this rule
  • Only conventional bicycles and conventional tandems may be ridden:
    - BMX bicycles and tandems with disc or covered wheels are deemed to be conventional.
    - Bicycles and tandems with fairing or attachments to improve airflow, recumbent, extended bicycles, tricycles, machines known as human powered vehicles (HPVs) and other similar machines are deemed to be unconventional and are not permitted to enter without the express permission of the organisers. Please apply for special dispensation in writing to the Race Office.
    - Bicycles, tandems and other machines fitted with unconventional handlebars including triathlon-bars, aerobars, clip-ons, prayer-bars, turned-up-bars and cow-bars are not permitted in any category. ATB bar-ends are permitted on Mountain Bikes.
    - Any participant who is in any doubt about whether his bicycle, tandem or machine is suitable to be ridden in the event and, if so, in which category, is advised to contact the organisers well beforehand.
    - The Road and Technical Commissions of Cycling South Africa have considered the communique from the UCI and have decided to permit riders to use disc brakes on road bicycles while participating in road racing events. As advised by the UCI rules, the use of disc brakes in road races will be applicable to all racing categories This ruling will be applied to the Virgin Active Ride Joburg Road.
  • A cyclist may move down to a slower start group (from start group ‘B’ and down only) without being penalised. Any cyclist who chooses to start in a later start group will not qualify for any prizes in that start group.
  • A rider shall not ride the route a second time after finishing. Unfortunately due to reduced participation numbers and exact capacity limitations per start batch, Charity double loop entries will not be permitted.
  • Participants must complete the course in 6 hours or less (after the last start group) in order to qualify as a finisher and receive a medal.
  • Participants must complete the course entirely under their own power and slipstreaming any vehicle or motorbike is prohibited.
  • No participant may cause or allow any motorised or human powered machine, other than that of another participant, to follow or second him/her.
  • Only the official licensed racing categories will be allowed accredited support vehicles on route.
  • Cyclists are not permitted to participate in the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg Road with any live animal(s) on their bicycle or person, unless otherwise agreed to in writing by the organising committee.
  • The routes will be as supplied and participants must familiarise themselves with the route they are riding. The Organising Committee reserves the right to alter the routes in accordance with safety, traffic, construction or other constraints. No protest relating to deviation will be entertained.

4. E-BIKES

  • E-Bikes may be ridden only if the participant selects the E-bike category when entering online. Should an E-bike participant change his entry to / from an E-bike category without properly applying for such a change through the Race Office, he / she will be disqualified. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • The definition which distinguishes E-bikes permitted to enter this race are as follows:
    - the pedal-assist, i.e. the motorised assistance that only engages when the rider is pedalling, cuts out once 25 km/h is reached (ie no permanently powered bicycles), AND
    - when the motor produces maximum continuous rated power of not more than 250 watts.
  • The E-bike category does not fall under UCI and CSA rules and is “unregulated” therefore no prize money will be awarded in this category. E-bikes may not be ridden in any racing categories (CSA licensed categories).
  • E-Bike results will be marked as such in the results and may not be used for seeding for other cycling events.
  • Members of Cycling SA who participate in sanctioned events on an E-Bike will also forfeit any potential claim for medical assistance, as the use of E-Bikes falls outside of the scope of the federation’s rules and regulations.
  • E-bike entries are open to all riders aged 19 and over.
  • Riders can only use the battery in place on their bike and cannot carry an additional battery during the event.
  • Participants riding E-bikes must adhere to all the rules of the race.
  • An E-bike cyclist may not start or attempt to start before his/her designated start group. Any cyclist who does so will be disqualified. A cyclist may move down to a slower start group without being penalised.

5. TIMING

  • Peak Timing is the official timing company of the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg Road.
  • It is compulsory to ride with a Faces, road re-usable timing chip that is linked to your entry profile and race number. If you have kept your chip and clip from 2021 you will be able to re-use it.
  • It is compulsory for every cyclist participating to secure the timing chip provided as instructed
  • You may not ride with someone else’s race number or timing chip.
  • Any participant that does not wear their race number and timing chip will not be allowed into the start pen on race day or will have to purchase a new chip and race number at the start. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • Timing queries must be addressed to the Race Office no later than 30 November 2024 for consideration.

6. SUBSCRIPTIONS AND/ OR OPT IN'S

Please note that in the event that you have selected to unsubscribe and/or opt-out of receiving any newsletters and/or marketing mail you will still receive communication regarding logistics relating to the event you have entered.

7. CANCELLATION AND WITHDRAWAL POLICY:

  • Withdrawal Policy:
    - No refund shall be given in the event that a participant cancels their entry into the event.
  • Force Majeure:
    - No entry fee shall be refunded to a participant for a cancellation of the Event due to acts of God (so called Force Majeure), which acts shall include but not be limited to adverse weather conditions, riots, strikes, political unrest and/or any other occurrence not within the control of the event organiser.


Please read the following event participant waiver and agreement carefully, as it will affect your future legal rights. By participating in a Faces Ride Joburg (pty) ltd event you accept the below and you acknowledge that you have carefully read and fully understood the waivers and agree to the terms. 


1. WAIVER & RELEASE OF CLAIMS, ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND CONSENT TO MEDICAL TREATMENT

  • I understand that participating in a FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD Event is an inherently dangerous activity that may present challenging single-track paths, water crossings, rocky sections, other riders, public vehicles, pedestrians, steep descends, drop-offs, mud, rocks, corrugated road, grass, wet grass, wooden or metal bridges, fences, barbed wire fences etc.
  • I understand that participating in the Event involves the risks of severe physical injury and/or death that cannot be completely eliminated.
  • I voluntarily, knowingly and freely assume all risks associated with competing in the Event,  including, but not limited to, my own actions or inactions, the actions or inactions of others  (including participants, staff or spectators), falls, illness, infection, contact with others (including participants, staff or spectators), premises defects and the effects of weather, including high heat and/or humidity.
  • I agree to observe and obey all posted rules and warnings, to follow any instructions or directions given by FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD through its employees, representatives or agents, and to abide by any decision of any Event official relative to my ability to safely compete in the Event.
  • I understand, agree and accept that some of the obstacles may go through water that has not been tested for chemicals, disease or contamination.
  • I understand that the Event course may contain wild animals, insects and plants.
  • I agree not to act irresponsibly during the event, as doing so may cause serious physical injury.
  • I certify that I am physically fit and have no medical condition that would make participation in the Event more hazardous.
  • If I am pregnant, disabled in any way or have recently suffered an illness or injury; I should have or did consult a physician before participating in the Event.
  • I agree not to consume alcohol prior to the Event or use any medicines or substances that will inhibit my mental or physical ability to safely and effectively participate in the Event.
  • I consent to medical care and transportation in order to obtain treatment in the event of injury to me, volunteers or medical professionals may deem appropriate and understand that this Waiver & Release extends to any liability arising out of or in any way connected with the medical treatment and transportation provided in the event of an emergency and/or injury.
  • I understand and agree that I am expected to exhibit appropriate behaviour at all times and to obey all local, province, federal civil and criminal laws at all times while participating in or attending the Event. This includes, generally, respect for all people, equipment, facilities or property. FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD may dismiss me, without refund, should my behaviour endanger the safety of or negatively affect the Event, person, facility or property. I also agree to indemnify FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD, its owners, officers, past and present employees, agents and Event sponsors from any and all third party claims caused in whole or in part by my negligent or intentional acts or omissions.
  • I agree that FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD is not responsible for any personal items or property that is lost, damaged or stolen at the Event.
  • I understand that pets, wheeled baby conveyances or other wheeled means of conveyance are NOT permitted on the Event course.
  • I consent to the use of my image in photographs, motion pictures or recordings taken at the Event for use in Event advertising, marketing or promotion.
  • I agree that all entry fee payments are final and non-refundable. Refunds may be done at the discretion of FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD.
  • I agree that FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD reserves the right to cancel the Event in the event of extreme weather (including, but not limited to, heat, tornadoes, earthquakes, fires,  storms, lightning and floods), accidents, acts of war or terrorism, military conflicts or riots or for any reason that, in FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD’s discretion, will protect the safety and security of Event participants and spectators. In the event of such cancellation, there will be no refund of my registration fee.

2. THE FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD WAIVER & RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS / ASSUMPTION OF RISK

  • I understand that FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD is committed to conducting its Event in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in the highest regard. I understand that FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participant’s safety. I also understand, however, that participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the Event recognise that there is an inherent risk of severe physical injury and/or death when choosing to participate in the Event. I am solely responsible for determining if I am (or my minor child/ward is) physically fit and/or sufficiently skilled for the Event.
  • I recognise and acknowledge that there are risks of physical injury to participants in the Event, and I freely and voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity, that I (or my child) may sustain as a result of said participation.
  • I approve my (or my child’s) participation in the Event. I assume all risks and hazards incidental to such participation in the Event, and I release, absolve, indemnify, and agree to hold harmless  FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD its owners, officers, past and present employees, agents, representatives, assigns, administrators, executors, volunteers, and all city, county and state governments, and all Event sponsors, their representatives and successors, and other persons,  for any claim arising out of an injury to me (or my child) and from any and all claims, causes of action, obligations, lawsuits, charges, complaints, controversies, damages, costs or expenses of whatsoever kind, nature, or description, whether direct or indirect, in law or in equity, in contract or in tort, or otherwise, whether known or unknown, arising out of or connected with my (or my child’s) participation in the Event.
  • Use of online registration is at my own risk, on an as-is and as available basis and FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD makes no warranty that its site or services will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free. I understand and agree that any material and/or data downloaded or otherwise obtained through the use of online registration, is at my own discretion and risk and that I will be solely responsible for any damage to my own computer system or loss of data that results from the download of such mateI agree to indemnify and hold online registration harmless from and against any and all damages, costs, claims or demands, including reasonable attorney’s fees, made by any third party due to or arising from or relating to my use of online registration or the violation of any term of this Agreement.rial and/or data.

3. ONLINE REGISTRATION AGREEMENT AND LIABILITY WAIVER (AGREEMENT)

  • I represent and warrant to FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD that I have full legal authority to complete this event registration on behalf of myself and/or any person I am registering  (Registrant(s)), including full authority to make use of the credit or debit card to which registration fees will be charged.
  • If I am registering a minor under the age of 18, I represent and warrant that I am the parent or legal guardian of that person and have the legal authority to enter into this Agreement on their behalf and by proceeding with this event registration, I agree that the terms of this Agreement shall apply equally to all Registrants.
  • I understand that participating in the Event is an inherently dangerous activity that presents extreme obstacles and involves the risks of severe physical injury and/or death that cannot be completely eliminated.
  • I understand that participating in thFACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, including lost profits, resulting from (a) the use or the inability to use online registration, (b) resulting from any transactions made or services or goods purchased through online registration or (c) resulting from unauthorized access to or alteration of any transmissions or data.e Event is an inherently dangerous activity that presents extreme obstacles and involves the risks of severe physical injury and/or death that cannot be completely eliminated.
  • Use of online registration is at my own risk, on an as-is and as available basis and FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD makes no warranty that its site or services will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free. I understand and agree that any material and/or data downloaded or otherwise obtained through the use of online registration, is at my own discretion and risk and that I will be solely responsible for any damage to my own computer system or loss of data that results from the download of such material and/or data.
  • I understand that online registration is controlled by FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD from its offices in Pretoria South Africa. By completing this event registration, I agree that the statutes and laws of South Africa without regard to the conflict of laws principles thereof will apply to all matters relating to this event registration and Agreement. I further agree and expressly consent to the exercise of personal jurisdiction in the courts of South Africa in connection with any dispute or claim with FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD.
  • Using an illegitimate ID / Passport number will result in you losing your entry and forfeiting your payment.
  • An email address cannot be used more than once – a unique email address must be used per entrant.
Virgin Active Ride Joburg Short Ride

1. EVENT INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Entry Fees: The entry fee of R495.00 includes VAT and the CSA rider levy.
  • Individual participants must be older than the age of 12 years on 31 Dec 2024.
  • Tandem participants riding with an adult must be older than the age of 9 years on 31 Dec 2024
  • All minor participants under the age of 16 years are required to be accompanied by an adult at all times who is entered in the Virgin Active Ride Joburg – Short Ride
  • Special dispensation may be applied for in writing to the Race Office for younger entrants.
  • If payment remains outstanding at the end of the online entry session, the entry will not be saved. An entry is not considered valid until payment has been received. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • Entries close on 27 October 2024 or when entry capacity is reached. Online entries without payment are not saved and are NOT valid entries. An entry is not considered valid until payment has been received. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • The Organising Committee may, at their discretion, decline an entry from anyone who is under suspension or has been banned by any sports controlling body for having used illegal drugs or any other substances; or refuse to allow anyone to participate in the race where good grounds exist for such a refusal.

The person who is being substituted will have their number removed from the database and a new number will be allocated. Seeding will be according to the new participant’s individual seeding index.
  • Charity/ Company Teams:
    - There is a minimum of 10 entrants per team. Limited group entries will be accepted. Terms and Conditions apply.
    - Each team participant with a seeding index will be allocated their start time, and all unseeded members will be seeded in the team’s start group. Seeded cyclists may drop down to their team’s start time if they wish to ride together.

    - Entrants who wish to Ride For a Purpose must join their chosen Charities by 29 September 2024.
  • Number collection dates and times will be communicated to entrants/team administrators. Participants may be required to book time slots and will only be allowed to visit the Expo and collect in their pre-allocated time. Bulk collection of race packs may not be permitted, this will be communicated to team administrators closer to the time.

3. RACING CATEGORIES

  • Only the top Cycling South Africa licensed cyclists will be allowed to start in U23 and Elite categories for both men and women.
  • Only cyclists with a valid Cycling South Africa (CSA) license and the required seeding index will be permitted to start in the Elite, U23 categories for both ladies and men and  Junior (U19) men only. Restricted gears apply for Junior men as per CSA rules.
  • The Veteran categories are further subdivided into the following Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) categories: 30-34 and 35-39, 40-44, 45- 49, 50-54, 55-59 and 60+. The sizes of these groups will be limited to only the best seeded cyclists per group based on their individually determined seeding index.
  • Licenses must be available for view at registration and on race day. No day licenses will be issued at registration. The Virgin Active Ride Joburg Organising Committee are not responsible for the collection and return of licenses.
  • All licensed racing groups competing for prize money MUST wear the timing chip provided, as instructed, to be eligible for a result and prize money. If any member of the racing group does not wear their chip, their result will not be recorded. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • As per CSA rules Junior (U19) Female and Juvenile (U17) Male and Female racing categories are no longer applicable to this distance / event.  These cyclists will be seeded in open categories.
  • All licensed riders are to abide by Virgin Active Ride Joburg Terms and Conditions and CSA rules and regulations cyclingsa.com/rules-and-regulations/
  • The Organising Committee may, at their discretion, decline an entry from anyone who is under suspension or has been banned by any sports controlling body for having used illegal drugs or any other substances; or refuse to allow anyone to participate in the race where good grounds exist for such a refusal.
  • Any cyclist who fails a doping test will be disqualified and receive a lifetime ban from this event.
  • Only the official licensed racing categories will be allowed support vehicles on route. Support vehicles must be accredited by the organisers and CSA. Non-accredited vehicles will be removed from the route. Support vehicles MUST drive with the safety of all cyclists, marshals and route support vehicles as a priority. Failure to do so will result in the racing team they are supporting being disqualified. All support teams must be in possession of a valid CSA manager’s license.
  • Result protests must be submitted in person to the CSA / CGC official in attendance at the finish line immediately after crossing the finish line / at least 30 minutes prior to prize giving.

    - Any participant who is in any doubt about whether his bicycle, tandem or machine is suitable to be ridden in the event and, if so, in which category, is advised to contact the organisers well beforehand.
    - The Road and Technical Commissions of Cycling South Africa have considered the communique from the UCI and have decided to permit riders to use disc brakes on road bicycles while participating in road racing events. As advised by the UCI rules, the use of disc brakes in road races will be applicable to all racing categories This ruling will be applied to the Virgin Active Ride Joburg Road.
  • A cyclist may move down to a slower start group (from start group ‘B’ and down only) without being penalised. Any cyclist who chooses to start in a later start group will not qualify for any prizes in that start group.
  • A rider shall not ride the route a second time after finishing. Unfortunately due to reduced participation numbers and exact capacity limitations per start batch, Charity double loop entries will not be permitted.
  • Participants must complete the course in 6 hours or less (after the last start group) in order to qualify as a finisher and receive a medal.
  • Participants who fail to reach the cut-off point in a specified time will be withdrawn and will not be permitted to continue. Cyclists are expected to be able to ride at an average speed of 18km/h. Cut-off times will be published in the race pack and will be strictly adhered to. Support services will similarly be withdrawn for that section of the route and the route will be opened to normal traffic. Cut-off times may be changed OR additional cut-offs may be instituted at any time should the Race Director deem it necessary for the safety of participants. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • Participants must complete the course entirely under their own power and slipstreaming any vehicle or motorbike is prohibited.
  • No participant may cause or allow any motorised or human powered machine, other than that of another participant, to follow or second him/her.
  • Only the official licensed racing categories will be allowed accredited support vehicles on route.
  • Cyclists are not permitted to participate in the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg Road with any live animal(s) on their bicycle or person, unless otherwise agreed to in writing by the organising committee.
  • The routes will be as supplied and participants must familiarise themselves with the route they are riding. The Organising Committee reserves the right to alter the routes in accordance with safety, traffic, construction or other constraints. No protest relating to deviation will be entertained.

5. E-BIKES

  • E-Bikes may be ridden only if the participant selects the E-bike category when entering online. Should an E-bike participant change his entry to / from an E-bike category without properly applying for such a change through the Race Office, he / she will be disqualified. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • The definition which distinguishes E-bikes permitted to enter this race are as follows:
    - the pedal-assist, i.e. the motorised assistance that only engages when the rider is pedalling, cuts out once 25 km/h is reached (ie no permanently powered bicycles), AND
    - when the motor produces maximum continuous rated power of not more than 250 watts.
  • The E-bike category does not fall under UCI and CSA rules and is “unregulated” therefore no prize money will be awarded in this category. E-bikes may not be ridden in any racing categories (CSA licensed categories).
  • E-Bike results will be marked as such in the results and may not be used for seeding for other cycling events.
  • Members of Cycling SA who participate in sanctioned events on an E-Bike will also forfeit any potential claim for medical assistance, as the use of E-Bikes falls outside of the scope of the federation’s rules and regulations.
  • E-bike entries are open to all riders aged 19 and over.
  • Riders can only use the battery in place on their bike and cannot carry an additional battery during the event.
  • Participants riding E-bikes must adhere to all the rules of the race.
  • An E-bike cyclist may not start or attempt to start before his/her designated start group. Any cyclist who does so will be disqualified. A cyclist may move down to a slower start group without being penalised.

6. TIMING

  • Finish Time is the official timing company of the Virgin Active Ride Joburg Road MTB Races.
  • It is compulsory to ride with a Faces, road re-usable timing chip that is linked to your entry profile and race number. If you have kept your chip and clip from 2021 you will be able to re-use it.
  • It is compulsory for every cyclist participating to secure the timing chip provided as instructed
  • You may not ride with someone else’s race number or timing chip.
  • Any participant that does not wear their race number and timing chip will not be allowed into the start pen on race day or will have to purchase a new chip and race number at the start. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
  • Timing queries must be addressed to the Race Office no later than 30 November 2024 for consideration.

6. SUBSCRIPTIONS AND/ OR OPT IN'S

Please note that in the event that you have selected to unsubscribe and/or opt-out of receiving any newsletters and/or marketing mail you will still receive communication regarding logistics relating to the event you have entered.

7. CANCELLATION AND WITHDRAWAL POLICY:

  • Withdrawal Policy:
    - No refund shall be given in the event that a participant cancels their entry into the event.
  • Force Majeure:
    - No entry fee shall be refunded to a participant for a cancellation of the Event due to acts of God (so called Force Majeure), which acts shall include but not be limited to adverse weather conditions, riots, strikes, political unrest and/or any other occurrence not within the control of the event organiser.


Please read the following event participant waiver and agreement carefully, as it will affect your future legal rights. By participating in a Faces Ride Joburg (pty) ltd event you accept the below and you acknowledge that you have carefully read and fully understood the waivers and agree to the terms. 


1. WAIVER & RELEASE OF CLAIMS, ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND CONSENT TO MEDICAL TREATMENT

  • I understand that participating in a FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD Event is an inherently dangerous activity that may present challenging single-track paths, water crossings, rocky sections, other riders, public vehicles, pedestrians, steep descends, drop-offs, mud, rocks, corrugated road, grass, wet grass, wooden or metal bridges, fences, barbed wire fences etc.
  • I understand that participating in the Event involves the risks of severe physical injury and/or death that cannot be completely eliminated.
  • I voluntarily, knowingly and freely assume all risks associated with competing in the Event,  including, but not limited to, my own actions or inactions, the actions or inactions of others  (including participants, staff or spectators), falls, illness, infection, contact with others (including participants, staff or spectators), premises defects and the effects of weather, including high heat and/or humidity.
  • I agree to observe and obey all posted rules and warnings, to follow any instructions or directions given by FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD through its employees, representatives or agents, and to abide by any decision of any Event official relative to my ability to safely compete in the Event.
  • I understand, agree and accept that some of the obstacles may go through water that has not been tested for chemicals, disease or contamination.
  • I understand that the Event course may contain wild animals, insects and plants.
  • I agree not to act irresponsibly during the event, as doing so may cause serious physical injury.
  • I certify that I am physically fit and have no medical condition that would make participation in the Event more hazardous.
  • If I am pregnant, disabled in any way or have recently suffered an illness or injury; I should have or did consult a physician before participating in the Event.
  • I agree not to consume alcohol prior to the Event or use any medicines or substances that will inhibit my mental or physical ability to safely and effectively participate in the Event.
  • I consent to medical care and transportation in order to obtain treatment in the event of injury to me, volunteers or medical professionals may deem appropriate and understand that this Waiver & Release extends to any liability arising out of or in any way connected with the medical treatment and transportation provided in the event of an emergency and/or injury.
  • I understand and agree that I am expected to exhibit appropriate behaviour at all times and to obey all local, province, federal civil and criminal laws at all times while participating in or attending the Event. This includes, generally, respect for all people, equipment, facilities or property. FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD may dismiss me, without refund, should my behaviour endanger the safety of or negatively affect the Event, person, facility or property. I also agree to indemnify FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD, its owners, officers, past and present employees, agents and Event sponsors from any and all third party claims caused in whole or in part by my negligent or intentional acts or omissions.
  • I agree that FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD is not responsible for any personal items or property that is lost, damaged or stolen at the Event.
  • I understand that pets, wheeled baby conveyances or other wheeled means of conveyance are NOT permitted on the Event course.
  • I consent to the use of my image in photographs, motion pictures or recordings taken at the Event for use in Event advertising, marketing or promotion.
  • I agree that all entry fee payments are final and non-refundable. Refunds may be done at the discretion of FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD.
  • I agree that FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD reserves the right to cancel the Event in the event of extreme weather (including, but not limited to, heat, tornadoes, earthquakes, fires,  storms, lightning and floods), accidents, acts of war or terrorism, military conflicts or riots or for any reason that, in FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD’s discretion, will protect the safety and security of Event participants and spectators. In the event of such cancellation, there will be no refund of my registration fee.

2. THE FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD WAIVER & RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS / ASSUMPTION OF RISK

  • I understand that FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD is committed to conducting its Event in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in the highest regard. I understand that FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participant’s safety. I also understand, however, that participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the Event recognise that there is an inherent risk of severe physical injury and/or death when choosing to participate in the Event. I am solely responsible for determining if I am (or my minor child/ward is) physically fit and/or sufficiently skilled for the Event.
  • I recognise and acknowledge that there are risks of physical injury to participants in the Event, and I freely and voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity, that I (or my child) may sustain as a result of said participation.
  • I approve my (or my child’s) participation in the Event. I assume all risks and hazards incidental to such participation in the Event, and I release, absolve, indemnify, and agree to hold harmless  FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD its owners, officers, past and present employees, agents, representatives, assigns, administrators, executors, volunteers, and all city, county and state governments, and all Event sponsors, their representatives and successors, and other persons,  for any claim arising out of an injury to me (or my child) and from any and all claims, causes of action, obligations, lawsuits, charges, complaints, controversies, damages, costs or expenses of whatsoever kind, nature, or description, whether direct or indirect, in law or in equity, in contract or in tort, or otherwise, whether known or unknown, arising out of or connected with my (or my child’s) participation in the Event.

3. ONLINE REGISTRATION AGREEMENT AND LIABILITY WAIVER (AGREEMENT)

  • I represent and warrant to FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD that I have full legal authority to complete this event registration on behalf of myself and/or any person I am registering  (Registrant(s)), including full authority to make use of the credit or debit card to which registration fees will be charged.
  • If I am registering a minor under the age of 18, I represent and warrant that I am the parent or legal guardian of that person and have the legal authority to enter into this Agreement on their behalf and by proceeding with this event registration, I agree that the terms of this Agreement shall apply equally to all Registrants.
  • I understand that participating in the Event is an inherently dangerous activity that presents extreme obstacles and involves the risks of severe physical injury and/or death that cannot be completely eliminated.
  • I understand that participating in thFACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, including lost profits, resulting from (a) the use or the inability to use online registration, (b) resulting from any transactions made or services or goods purchased through online registration or (c) resulting from unauthorized access to or alteration of any transmissions or data.e Event is an inherently dangerous activity that presents extreme obstacles and involves the risks of severe physical injury and/or death that cannot be completely eliminated.
  • Use of online registration is at my own risk, on an as-is and as available basis and FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD makes no warranty that its site or services will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free. I understand and agree that any material and/or data downloaded or otherwise obtained through the use of online registration, is at my own discretion and risk and that I will be solely responsible for any damage to my own computer system or loss of data that results from the download of such material and/or data.
  • Use of online registration is at my own risk, on an as-is and as available basis and FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD makes no warranty that its site or services will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free. I understand and agree that any material and/or data downloaded or otherwise obtained through the use of online registration, is at my own discretion and risk and that I will be solely responsible for any damage to my own computer system or loss of data that results from the download of such mateI agree to indemnify and hold online registration harmless from and against any and all damages, costs, claims or demands, including reasonable attorney’s fees, made by any third party due to or arising from or relating to my use of online registration or the violation of any term of this Agreement.rial and/or data.
  • I understand that online registration is controlled by FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD from its offices in Pretoria South Africa. By completing this event registration, I agree that the statutes and laws of South Africa without regard to the conflict of laws principles thereof will apply to all matters relating to this event registration and Agreement. I further agree and expressly consent to the exercise of personal jurisdiction in the courts of South Africa in connection with any dispute or claim with FACES RIDE JOBURG (PTY) LTD.
  • Using an illegitimate ID / Passport number will result in you losing your entry and forfeiting your payment.
  • An email address cannot be used more than once – a unique email address must be used per entrant.
Virgin Active Ride Joburg General T's & C's for Promotional Competitions.

These are the standard terms and conditions for promotional competitions conducted or promoted by or in association with Faces and all of its stakeholders and subsidiaries on all of its sites and properties.

Each promotional competition conducted or promoted is subject to these Standard Terms and Conditions for Promotional Competitions (“Ts and Cs”) and the rules, promotional material or adverts (“rules”) specifically those relating to the running of competitions, free prize draws, and promotions.For purposes hereof, “affiliate” means Faces’ partners, promoters, co-promoters and sponsors of this promotional competition, and the directors, officers, employees, agents and representatives of all those listed herein.

3.1 participation in the promotional competition; and/or
3.2 fulfilment of the conditions pertaining to a promotional competition, should there be any conditions, constitutes your binding acceptance of these Ts and Cs on behalf of yourself and any person with whom you may share a prize, reward, gift, free good or service, price reduction or concession, enhancement of quantity or quality of goods or services or other discounted or free thing being offered (“prize”), in the event that you obtain a prize which is for you and one or more additional persons (“your partner”).

The promotional competition is not open to
4.1 directors, members, partners, agents, employees, consultants of Faces and/or any affiliated companies, agencies, associates, partners and/or any suppliers of goods or services in connection with a competition; and
4.2 the spouse, life partner, business partner or associate, or the natural or adopted parent, child, or sibling, of any of the persons specified in 4.1 above.Entrance criteria or conditions are as set out in the rules of each promotional competition.

The judges’ decision is final and no further correspondence will be entered into.

Faces are not responsible for any entries which are not received by Faces and/or the promoters, whether timeously or at all, regardless of the cause thereof. Without limitation, Faces is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer hardware or software failure or malfunction, traffic congestion (whether physical, or on the Internet, telephone lines or at any service provider, website or other device or medium), or any combination thereof, or any other technical or other problems.

It is your responsibility, as a participant, to ensure that any information which you provide in respect of a promotional competition is accurate, complete and up to date.Any costs or expenses which you may incur other than in respect of those items specifically included in a prize are for your own account. Faces will not be responsible for any costs or expenses which you, or your partner (if applicable), incur during and for purposes of your participation in the promotional competition and your acceptance and/or use of a prize. Faces will specify, in the rules, the total value of the prizes to be won, the nature of the prizes, and any cost to be borne by the participants of any specific promotional offer.

Faces do not make any representations or give any warranties, whether expressly or implicitly, as to a prize, and in particular, but without limitation, makes no representations and gives no warranty that a prize, or any aspect thereof, will
10.1 meet your, or, if applicable, your partner’s requirements, preferences, standards or expectations; or
10.2 be satisfactory and punctual.

Prizes are not transferable and may not be deferred, changed or exchanged for any other item or cash. You may not obtain a prize if it is unlawful for us to supply such a prize to you. If you do not qualify to receive such a prize, you will forfeit it.In the event that you win, you must possess whatever documents and permissions that may be required in order to take part in the promotional competition or claim a prize.

Should you be a participant in the promotional competition to whom a prize is due, you will be notified by means of the contact details provided to Faces by you. Faces may require you to provide it, as the case may be, with additional information as may be reasonably required to process and facilitate your acceptance and/or use of a prize. You have one month from notification by Faces to collect or organise the delivery of a prize unless otherwise stipulated in the rules for a specific promotional competition.

Should you be a participant in the promotional competition to whom a prize is due and you fail to respond to the formal notification by Faces within the time period specified at 14 above, or in the rules for the specific promotional competition, as the case may be, you shall forfeit such unclaimed prize and thereafter Faces shall randomly select a replacement winner from the competition entries. Faces shall notify the replacement winner of such effect as soon as reasonably practicable and the provisions of this clause 15 shall apply to the replacement winner in the event that he/she fails to respond to the notification.

To the full extent permissible by applicable law, Faces and its third-party suppliers, as the case may be, reserve the right to vary, postpone, suspend, or cancel the promotional competition and any prizes, or any aspect thereof, without notice at any time, for any reason which Faces and such suppliers deem reasonable in the circumstances. In the event of such variation, postponement, suspension or cancellation, you agree to waive any rights, interests and expectations that you may have in terms of the promotional competition and acknowledge that you will have no recourse against Faces and third-party suppliers.

You agree that your participation in the promotional competition, and your acceptance and/or use of a prize, or any aspect thereof, is at your own risk.

Should you be a participant to whom a prize is due, you consent to Faces or its authorised agents to take, capture, record and/or use your name, voice, photographic images or video images for the purpose of marketing and publicity campaigns.

To the full extent permissible by applicable law, Faces will not be responsible, and disclaim all liability, for any loss, liability, injury, expense or damage (whether direct, indirect, incidental, punitive or consequential) of any nature, whether arising from negligence or any other cause, which is suffered by your participation in the promotional competition or the acceptance and/or use by you, or your partner (if applicable), of any prize, or by any action taken by us or any of our affiliates in accordance with the Ts and Cs.

These Ts and Cs will be construed, interpreted and enforced in accordance with the applicable laws of the Republic of South Africa.

Faces reserves the right to amend these Ts and Cs for Promotional Competitions at any time and will publish same on its Sites or make same available to participants on request.In the event that any of the terms of these T’s and C’s are found to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, such terms will be severable from the remaining terms of these T’s and C’s, which will continue to be valid and enforceable.
