2020 Entrant Related

All 2020 entrants who did not opt for a refund have had their entry deferred to 2021. You should have received an email from us on 7 April 2020, with your promo code and entry instructions. If not, please contact the Race office on info@ridejoburg.co.za. All deferred entrants will need to re-enter for the 2021 event in order to claim their entry.

All entrants who selected this option in 2020 have been refunded. If you have not received your refund please email us your details at info@ridejoburg.co.za

2021 Registration & Entry

General

  • 947 Ride Joburg Kids – Sat 13 Nov 2021 at STEYN CITY
  • 947 Ride Joburg MTB (25km / 50km) – Sun 14 Nov 2021 at STEYN CITY
  • 947 Ride Joburg Road – Sun 21 Nov 2021 at FNB Stadium / NASREC

Entries open on 8 April 2021, to enter visit the website www.ridejoburg.co.za

E-Bikes may be ridden in the ROAD and MTB events and only if the participant selects the E-bike category when entering online. Should an E-bike participant change his entry to/from an E-bike category without properly applying for such a change through the Race Office, he/she will be disqualified. No e-bikes are permitted in the KIDS ROAD / KIDS MTB events

Number collection venue and times will be communicated to entrants once entries close. These will be based on Covid-19 regulations closer to event date.

Only paid pre-entries will be accepted. There will be no late entries or unpaid entries at the venue.

947 Ride Joburg Road - Sun 21 Nov 2021 at FNB Stadium / NASREC

The entry fee of R595.00 includes VAT and a CSA rider levy.

Participants must be older than the age of 12 years on the 31 Dec 2021 however special dispensation may be applied for in writing to the Race Office for younger entrants.

Entries close on 5 October 2021 or when entry capacity is reached. Should the event entry numbers be reduced due to COVID-19 related reasons, only the first paid entrants will be accepted on a first-in, last-out basis. Read our withdrawal and cancellation policy here.

No participant may sell their number or allow anyone else to ride under that number. A substitution may be applied for with the Race Office. Should a participant be in breach of this, she/he will be immediately disqualified and banned from participating in the 947 Ride Joburg Road for 5 years.

A participant may organise a substitution with the Race Office which can be done for a fee within the prescribed period. The original entry fee will not be refunded. The person who is being substituted will have their number removed from the database and a new number will be allocated. Seeding will be according to the new participant’s individual seeding index.

947 Ride Joburg MTB - Sun 14 Nov 2021 at Steyn City

  • 25km = R335 (includes 15% VAT and CSA rider levy)
  • 50km = R435 (includes 15% VAT and CSA rider levy)
  • 25km: older than 10 years on the 31 December 2021
  • 50km: older than 15 years on the 31 December 2021
  • Special dispensation may be applied for in writing to the Race Office for younger entrants

Only conventional mountain bikes and conventional mountain bike tandems may be ridden. 

  • ATB bar-ends are permitted on Mountain Bikes. 
  • Any participant who is in any doubt about whether his/her bicycle, tandem or machine is suitable to be ridden in the event and, if so, in which category, is advised to contact the organisers well beforehand.

If you have entered the 50km MTB event, you will require a minimum qualifying seeding by 30 September 2021 in order to qualify to take part in this distance. If you have entered 50km and do not qualify you will be automatically entered for the 25km race.

947 Ride Joburg Kids - Sat 13 Nov 2021 at Steyn City

The entry fee is R195.00 Pre- entries include a Kids T-Shirt and a complimentary goodie bag.

Should the event entry numbers be reduced due to COVID-19 related reasons, only the first paid entrants will be accepted on a first-in, last-out basis. Kids Road categories (on tarred / paved roads within Steyn City):

  • Birds – 1km* Push bikes and tricycles. (age appropriate 2 – 4 years).
  • Meerkats – 1km* Trikes, push bikes and training wheels allowed (age appropriate 5 – 6 years).
  • Lions – 2.8km* Bicycles only, no training wheels (age appropriate 7 – 8 years).
  • Elephants – 5.5km* Bicycles only, no training wheels (age appropriate 9 – 10 years).

*Age categories are calculated for entry purposes as the entrant’s age on 31 December 2021

No tandems / motorised bicycles / e-bikes will be permitted. Each rider need to bring their own bike

Kids MTB (on MTB single tracks / paths within Steyn City):
Kids 5km / 10km MTB (age appropriate, 8 – 16 years only)
*Age categories are calculated for entry purposes as the entrant’s age on 31 December 2021

This MTB ride for kids serves as a great introduction to mountain biking and is manageable for all levels, especially kids who may have outgrown the Birds – Elephants categories above.

Only conventional mountain bikes may be ridden, ATB bar-ends are permitted on mountain bikes.
No tandems / e-bikes will be allowed.

Only one adult may accompany each entrant in the Birds (2-4 Years) OR 5/10km MTB category, the adult must wear the corresponding race number which will be issued upon request at number collection as per advertised dates and times.

Refund & Cancellation Policies

No refund shall be given in the event that a participant cancels their entry into the event. (Kids ride included)

No entry fee shall be refunded to a participant for a cancellation of the Event due to acts of God (so called Force Majeure), which acts shall include but not be limited to adverse weather conditions, riots, strikes, political unrest and/or any other occurrence not within the control of the event organiser.

Entries will be considered on a first in last out basis should the participation capacity be reduced due to restrictions placed on the event due to Covid-19. Should the event be cancelled / entry numbers reduced by the Event Organiser due to COVID-19 related reasons, every entrant shall be entitled to a full refund of their entry fee.

Corporates, Teams, Charities

General

Charity and Corporate Team entries will open from 8 April 2021. Click here for team entry info.

Charity and Company Team start times will be communicated to teams later in the year as it is possible that these will be affected by Covid-19 regulations at the time of the event. Each team participant with a seeding index will be allocated their start time, and all unseeded members will be seeded in the team’s start group. Seeded cyclists may drop down to their team’s start time if they wish to ride together. No late seeding requests at registration will be entertained.

Charity Teams

Entrants wishing to support one of the registered 947 Ride Joburg charities will be required to select to support one of the registered charities listed on the website.

Entrants who wish to Ride For a Purpose must join their chosen Charities 30 September 2021.

A Charity Team is made up of 10 or more entries to help raise funds and awareness for the charity. Limited group entries will be accepted. (Charity start groups are limited based on Covid-19 regulations / a max of 4000 riders). Terms and Conditions will apply.

Company Teams

A Company Team is made up of 10 – 100+ entries for groups. It allows a company to reserve entry slots and then invite clients or employees to join in the 947 Ride Joburg fun. Companies wishing to pre-purchase entries may register here.

Seeding, Timing & Results

947 Ride Joburg Road - Sun 21 Nov 2021 at NASREC

You do not need to qualify for the 947 Ride Joburg Road.

Seeding is the process that puts cyclists of similar ability into the same starting group. It is
done to ensure a safe event and to place cyclists with others against whom they can
compete enjoyably and safely.

The size of racing groups will be limited to the top qualifiers based on their 947 Ride Joburg
calculated seeding index.

The Organising Committee will use selected SAS Road results obtained from events
between 1 November 2019 and 30 September 2021 for seeding (at the discretion of
the Race Director).

Seeding, start groups and start times will be emailed and/or sms’d to participants and will be available from mid October 2021. Batch sizes and start times will be based on Covid-19 protocols at the time of the race.

Cyclists who believe they have been incorrectly seeded may apply for re-seeding within the prescribed period communicated to cyclists. No late seeding requests at registration will be entertained.

It is compulsory for every cyclist participating to secure the timing chip provided in your race pack, that is linked to your entry profile, to your seat post as instructed. You may not ride with someone else’s race number or timing chip. Any participant that does not wear their race number or timing chip will not be allowed into the start pen on race day

Finish Time is the official timing company of the 947 Ride Joburg Road.

947 Ride Joburg MTB - Sun 14 Nov 2021 at Steyn City

SASeeding, or their appointed agency, is the official timing company of the 25km & 50km 947 Ride Joburg MTB.

It is compulsory for every cyclist participating in 25km & 50km to wear a valid SAS board linked to their personal profile, with the batch and event stickers provided affixed to the board. SAS boards may be purchased online during the entry process. You may not ride with someone else’s SAS board.

Participants with existing SASeeding Number Boards will have the opportunity to validate their number against their name online before the race / on race day. It is the sole responsibility of the rider to ride with the correct number.

Prizemoney is awarded for top finishers in the following 50km MTB categories.
Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in the following 25km MTB categories.

947 Ride Joburg Kids - Sat 13 Nov 2021 at Steyn City

Entrants will be batched by date of entry based on the category they selected.

Only the 5km / 10km MTB is a timed event. SASeeding, or their appointed agency, is the official timing company of the 5km / 10km 947 Ride Joburg KIDS MTB.

Should entrants wish to receive an official result they must wear a valid SAS board linked to the child’s personal profile. These may be purchased online and are optional.

All categories are non-competitive events, prizes are not awarded to place positions.

Expo

We are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to host the Expo from 18 – 20 November 2021. We are continually monitoring the Covid-19 landscape and government regulations and hope to have made a decision regarding the Expo by June 2021.
