Head out onto the Soweto highway for a brief loop where you will pass the well-known Joburg gold mine dumps and hug Soweto before turning back towards Main Reef Road.
Revel in the spectacular cityscapes around you as the route flows onto the M1 South (cycling in a northerly direction). For 3 km, the road is split with fence barriers. You might see your friends or family members heading into the finish straight. After water point 2, take a right turn onto the Jan Smuts Ave slipway from the M1 South where you will reunite with the 947 Ride Joburg route. You will then cross the iconic Nelson Mandela bridge before turning onto the M1 North heading south and riding past Gold Reef City. At this point, you will catch glimpses of the FNB Stadium, which marks the last section of your exhilarating ride. Your finish will be on Nasrec Road, whereafter you will turn into FNB stadium for a hero’s welcome and hearty hospitality.
There will be 3 water points along the 947 Short Ride route, stocked with ice-cold water, Powerade and Coke.
Take me to the City that I love. The City of contrasts. The City built on gold. From shantytown to a cosmopolitan hub of more than five million people with complex urban environments – this is my City.
