The 947 Ride Joburg Criterium Race is exclusively for the Elite and Professional road riders and takes place on 15 November 2020. A closed-circuit track of 1.4 km inside Steyn City has been designated for this high profile Criterium event and riders are required to race for an hour + one lap. Criterium Racing is a hugely popular spectator sport, but due to the restriction of current COVID-19 event regulations, we regret that spectators cannot be allowed on the venue. We will, however, be bringing the action to you and this exciting race will be streamed live via the 947 Ride Joburg Facebook page. The Criterium Race will be capped at 100 riders per event category.

Event format

  • Only pre-paid pre-entries will be accepted to reduce queueing and promote social distancing.
  • A screening station will be set up at the venue entrance where riders’ temperatures will be recorded and a questionnaire will be filled out. Riders will at the same time be registered and allocated a race number. 
  • Sanitation stations will be placed throughout the venue. Please sanitise regularly.
  • Riders are required to wear a mask/buff at all times when on the venue or at water points. You may remove it once you start riding.
  • Spectators can unfortunately not be allowed on venue, as that will push up the numbers past the acceptable COVID-19 event number.
  • Riders will collect their medal and goody bag when they have finished their race together with a sealed beverage.
  • Riders cannot be encouraged to stay around after the race and we ask that riders exit the venue as soon as possible.
  • There will be limited seating available to avoid congregating as much as possible.
  • Nevertheless, expect a festive atmosphere and a beautifully set up venue!
  • There will be food, coffee and soft drinks for sale. Unfortunately, no alcohol.
  • There will not be a prize-giving ceremony at the venue and winners will be announced after the race.
