Ride Joburg is a go!

Just in: The Department of Sports, Health and Culture has given the go-ahead for cycling mass participation single day and stage events to resume under Covid-19 restrictions.

947 Ride Joburg, hosted by the City of Johannesburg, is proud to have played a key role in an initiative to formulate a game plan for mass participation cycling events to proceed despite Covid-19 restrictions and regulations.

The Ministry considers cycling a low-risk sport because it typically occurs outdoors with good ventilation and is not confined to stadiums or closed-off venues. In addition, cycling takes place in full sunshine, where the sun’s UV rays kill off bacteria and viruses more readily.

The next step is to sit down with the City of Joburg to hash out the finer details to put the master plan into practice, this will be communicated to all 947 Ride Joburg participants closer to the time.

More good news is that no vaccination or Covid-19 testing will be required for the 947 Ride Joburg MTB and Kids events. However, it will be a requirement at the 947 Lifestyle Expo and Road events. Our team is working around the clock to find the most cost-effective and seamless testing solution for unvaccinated participants, but we recommend that participants get vaccinated as there is still ample time.
